Welcome to City of Rochester School, Alicja Emmett, Headteacher

From the Headteacher

WELCOME to all our pupils, new and returning.

I would like to welcome you all to the new academic year at our newly renamed, City of Rochester School (CoRS). CoRS is an independent, specialist day school for boys and girls aged 5 to 18 who have a diagnosis of ASD. Our school is a welcoming place with dedicated staff; we work closely in partnership with parents and carers to provide great learning opportunities and support to help our children acquire the skills necessary to lead full and productive lives.

We have a new school uniform, several new members of staff and we have completed phase one of our refurbishment of the school premises. This includes – new ICT facilities; new and redecorated classrooms and storage areas; new resources and equipment for classes.

The key change for this year and beyond is the introduction of our new curriculum which concentrates on our mission as a specialist school with outdoor learning and experiential curriculum. Children will spend part of their time in school and part following courses out of school, creating an integrated teaching and learning model tailored to their particular needs.

Pupil achievement last year includes: our GCSE results have been impressive, with 100% of pupils achieving grades 4-2, with some pupils taking their GCSEs early. Other achievements include pupils in KS3 and below making significant progress in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

I look forward to showing you our school and once again, welcoming all pupils for a new and exciting year ahead.
